Key Account Activation FAQ

What is my Wake Tech ID and Key Account Login?
Your Wake Tech ID is a 7-digit number given to all students. Your Key Account Login is your first initial, middle initial, and last name (example: John A. Doe = jadoe). To retrieve your Wake Tech ID and Key Account Login, go to Under the login area, click the link What's my login. Enter the information requested, and you will receive your Wake Tech ID and Key Account Login.

When trying to activate my account, I get an error when I enter my personal information.
If you receive an error about your Key Account, Birthdate, First or Last Name not matching with your Wake Tech ID Number, check to make sure you enter your Wake Tech ID Number correctly. Next, make sure you enter your personal information accurately, including your correct Key Account Login, your Birthdate in MM/DD/YYYY format, and your full and legal First and Last Name (including capitalizing the first letter of both your First and Last Name). Any deviations will cause errors and you will not be able to proceed.

Why do I need to answer security questions?
Security questions help safeguard your Key Account in the event your personal information is compromised and someone is trying to change your password without your knowledge and consent. Students are encouraged to select and answer three (3) security questions. The next time you have to change your password, you will be prompted to answer 1 of the 3 security questions you selected. The question is random each time.

I can't set my password.
Please follow the guidelines when creating your password. Your password...

Your password:

    1. cannot contain your account name or parts of the your full name that exceed two consecutive characters

    2. must be at least 8 characters in length

    3. contains characters from three of the following four categories:

        • English uppercase characters (A through Z)

        • English lowercase characters (a through z)

        • Base 10 digits (0 through 9)

        • Non-alphabetic characters: for example   @   #   %   :   -

    4. cannot contain the characters:   !   &   {   }   ~   "   `   '   <   >   +   =   [   ]   *   $


How long do I have to wait to register for classes after activating my account?
Once you have successfully activated your Key Account, you can log into WebAdvisor.

NOTE:  Before registering, you are required to contact your advisor in case of any academic holds. Also make sure of your designated registration date before trying to register.

Why can't I log into Blackboard after activating my account?
If you are a brand new student to Wake Tech and have not registered for any classes, you will not be able to log into Blackboard.

If you are a brand new student and have registered for classes, you will not be able to log in until the first day of the semester.

How do I change my password?
If you are logged into My Wake Tech (, you can click the Reset My Password link next to the Password field. 

If you're logged in, you can move your mouse on the Support menu option and then click Change My Password. Follow the password criteria when changing your password.

I have forgotten my password.
If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it by clicking the Reset My Password link on the My Wake Tech home page. You will need your Wake Tech ID number and Key Account Login, and you will have to answer a random security question before you  can reset your password.

NOTE: The answer to your security question is case-sensitive.

How do I reset my password if I'm on WebAdvisor?
If you are on WebAdvisor, click the Reset My Password link located on the bottom right-hand side of the page. This will take you to the Password Reset and Account Activation page.

I need help activating my account.
If you need assistance activating your Key Account, look under the Support menu, and click Ask Our Staff. The Wake Tech IT Service Desk will provide assistance via email. Please make sure you enter all of your information accurately for a response. You can also contact the IT Service Desk at 919-866-7000 for assistance.
